Is This Safe?
College Wagon Train is a social networking site used to bring college students together for ride sharing. As such, it is not without it’s inherent risks to the personal information and physical security of the site users. Listed below are some site safety features and travel tips that will help make your ride sharing experience a safe and successful trail ride. We encourage you to look over these features and tips before you accept or offer a ride as they will help you make safe, responsible choices about your ride sharing.
Site Safety Features
Many features have been incorporated into the site to help mitigate safety and security risks. Some of these features include:
- Membership based online forum
- Registration agreement required
- Personal email address required
- Member login and password required
- Automated robots excluded
- Forum Moderators
- Forum abusers will be kicked-off
- Use of Personal Messages (PM’s) encouraged for specific ride details
Additional Site Safety Features:
- Verification
Verified members are key to the community’s safety. When you see someone with a verified profile picture, it means a few different things. First, verified members have all made a donation to help College Wagon Train keep running, so you can feel confident that they care about the community. Second, they’ve confirmed both their name and physical location, so you can feel more comfortable that they are who they say they are. If you’d like to become a verified member, click the 'GET VERIFIED!' menu link for more information. - Rate Your Ride
The Rate Your Ride indicator is taken very seriously here at College Wagon Train. Trail Riders can rate other Trail Riders that they have shared a ride with and give an indication as to the type of experience they had with that Trail Rider. This helps other Trail Riders when deciding who they may want to Ride Share with in the future. - Member References
Member References are an excellent way to provide feedback and describe the type of experience you can expect to have when interacting with another Trail Rider. What do fellow Trail Riders have to say about each other? Have you met face to face or traveled with another Trail Rider and feel that they are trustworthy? If so, then let others know with a Member Reference.
Travel Tips
As with all Social Networking sites, Use Your Common Sense.
Safe ride sharing boils down to common sense. If you don’t feel comfortable with something, don’t do it! The safety features listed above can help increase your awareness of who you are riding with, but the decision to accept or offer a ride is up to you. You never have to accept a ride with or offer a ride to someone who you are not comfortable with. Make the best choice for you and enjoy your trail rides!
Remember that ultimately, your security resides with…you!
KNOW WHO YOU ARE RIDING WITH!!
